Crossroads' 1st Mission Trip, Day 2
It’s day two of our mission trip to Mexico. Already it’s been an adventure in many small ways. Our bags got delayed and we had to wait around in Mexico City for them to arrive on a later flight. It’s the coldest it has been here in at least 18 years, which gets exciting when your hotel doesn’t have any heat. We are all getting used to the thin air at 7,200+” altitude. All of us, even the young ‘uns got winded carrying our bags up three flights of stairs to our rooms. There have been great times as well as we explored Puebla, the historic city where we are staying and have been experimenting with the local gastronomic landscape (very yummy, I must say).
Tomorrow we head to the village to begin the spring box. This box will be one of five that have been built that will serve a village of 2,000. It is a poor, rural village when most people live on less than $2 a day. Tomorrow we will write and give you a first hand account of what the village is like.
For today I wanted to share a story with you that the mission told us. He said that the first town they build a spring box in had very dirty water. They way he described it was that it looked like watered down mustard. It’s hard to imagine a village living with water like that, something that is so basic to a healthy life. The missionary told us that after the spring box was completed he saw an 80% in the rate of patients coming to him for care. 80%! Unbelievable. It’s easy to see why helping to provide the simple gift of clean water creates such an opportunity to share the living water Jesus told the woman at the well about.
I also want to thank all those who helped the church service back home go so well in the absence of so many leaders. I heard great things. It’s a true demonstration of a heart to serve by all, not just those who are here on the team but also those who stayed home and kept things running there. You all rock! Keep us in your prayers.
More tomorrow…
